Ilmenau

The coat of arms of Ilmenau

Ilmenau is a town in Thuringia near Erfurt. It was an important mining town under the Counts of Henneberg. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe visited the town with its late Baroque centre, a total of 28 times, first in his position as Minister of Mining, and later for recreation and even dedicated a poem to the city.
