Israel is the nation-state of the Jewish people – shaped by the Middle East conflict. The country is located in Asia on the eastern part of the Mediterranean and is surrounded by Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon. The capital of the country is Jerusalem, the largest metropolitan area is Tel Aviv-Jaffa.
