Providence is the capital of Rhode Island and one of the oldest cities in the United States. It was founded by Roger Williams in 1636 and is named in honour of God providing him a place. The city was early to industrialize, manufacturing textiles, jewellery, and silverware. Providence is also known as the “Beehive of Industry”.
