Pirmasens is a town in Rhineland-Palatinate in the Palatinate Forest, close to the border with France. It bears the name of Saint Pirmin. In the 18th century, it was a residence and garrison town of Hesse-Darm­stadt and the heartland of the booming German shoe industry in the 19th and 20th centuries.
