Neubrandenburg is the third-largest city in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The town, founded in 1248, has the best-preserved brick Gothic city wall in Europe. Twenty-five of its former 57 Wiek houses, two defence towers and four city gates, among them the Stargarder Tor, have been preserved.
