Buttenheim is a market town in Bavaria located at the river Pregnitz. Until the late 17th century, it was the most important town between Bamberg and Forchheim. It features an ensemble of timber-framed buildings. One of them is the birthplace of Levi Strauss, who was born in Buttenheim in 1829.
