Schwerin is the state capital of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the smallest of the 16 German state capitals. The city’s landmark is Schwerin Castle, the former residence of Mecklenburg’s dukes and grand dukes. It is situated on an island in Lake Schwerin, one of the twelve lakes in the city.
