Bayreuth, a city in Upper Franconia, was the seat of the former Margraviate of Brandenburg-Bayreuth. The city is world-famous for its annual Richard-Wagner-Festival, the Bayreuth palace, and the Margravial opera house. The opera house was opened in 1748 and was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2012.
