Karlsruhe

Coat of Arms of Karlsruhe

Karlsruhe was founded by Margrave Charles III William of Baden-Durlach on June 17, 1715. The city was planned with the famous Karlsruhe Palace at the centre with 32 streets radiating out from it like the ribs of a folding fan, so one nickname for Karlsruhe in German is the “fan city” (Fächerstadt).
